On Wednesday, 18th October 2017, we are holding our next ‘on yard’ laser surgery day for the removal of sarcoids and melanomas. Vet Sarah Moore MRCVS is able to visit your yard to perform this surgery, if your horse or pony is a suitable candidate for this procedure.
Sarcoids are common skin tumours in the horse. The fact that so many different treatments exist can be confusing and is a reflection of the fact that no one single treatment is a ‘cure all’ miracle. In recent years, laser surgery has become an increasingly common method of sarcoid removal and at Rossdales we have offered this service for over 25 years. We have also published research in this area, showing that a cure rate of approximately 83% can be expected.
In many cases laser surgery can be carried out in the standing sedated horse, under local anaesthetic. Laser surgery can also be used to remove some other types of skin tumour, such as melanomas.
Please call the office on 01462 790221 for further information and to discuss whether your horse or pony is a suitable candidate for laser surgery.
